The release of the latest iPhone 4S from Apple this month also saw the introduction of iPhone 4 8GB deals from all of the UK networks, however many consumers may be a little confused as to why this new, smaller memory capacity model has more expensive deals than the current iPhone 4 16GB edition.
Common sense dictates that a product offering double the memory of another should in theory cost more but the new iPhone 4 8GB deals are in fact more expensive on paper until you dig deeper and look at why this is.
The iPhone 4 16GB has been around now for some time and a free phone can be ordered by consumers for as little as £30 per month, the new 8GB edition however, will set the consumer back £35 line rental per month for a free phone.
There is a very simple explanation, because the 16GB edition iPhone 4 has been around for a while now the retailers are able to sell what they refer to as refurbished stock, these are phones that have been sent out to consumers and returned within the mandatory 7 to 14 day window for multiple reasons.
The returned handsets are then carefully inspected and any problems seen to be engineers before being given approval for sale as a refurbished handset, these are then sold at a discount to consumers as either refurbished or more commonly 'clearance' mobile phone deals.
The refurbished iPhone 4 phones are supplied with exactly the same manufacturers warranty should anything go wrong with the phone that is not user error and come boxed (usually replaced with a standard box) with the relevant accessories, charger, headphones and manual.
Most retailers state that there might be minor damage to the packaging due to the phone already being sent out once before as well as minor imperfections in the look of the handset itself, however with the greatly reduced pricing for these 'next to new' phones many consumers are willing to take up these far more affordable offers.
The new iPhone 4 8GB has only been available for a very short period of time and refurbished versions of the phone are not yet currently available, rest assured though that as soon as they are the retailers will be adding them to their websites with discounted line rental deals that will make this new iPhone even more affordable than its larger 16GB edition.
